Access Canyon County Clerk Records

The Canyon County Clerk / Clerk of the District Court is the local office for court filings, court record copies, certified documents, courtroom clerks, and case-record support in Idaho's unified trial court system. A Canyon County Clerk records search usually begins online through the statewide court portal, but the Clerk's Court Operations office handles copies, audio requests, civil and criminal contact lines, and in-person service. Recorder, marriage-license, passport, indigent, auditor, and elections functions sit under the elected Clerk but use different counters.

Canyon County Clerk Office

The elected-official directory names Jess Urresti as Canyon County Clerk. The administrative Clerk office is in the Canyon County Administration Building, while court case support is handled by Court Operations in Room 201 of the courthouse. That split matters. A person asking for a divorce decree, criminal judgment, probate order, civil judgment, or hearing audio should use the Court Operations records request path. A person asking about marriage licenses or recorded instruments should use the Recorder and Passport Office.

The official Clerk page lists divisions for Auditor, County Assistance and Indigent services, Court Operations, Elections, Passports, Recorder, Marriage License, Recorder Search, and Daily Recorder Documents. Court Operations provides clerical support for the courts, processes and maintains court case filings, and provides in-court clerks who support judges. The office also links to the daily court schedule, Third District Trial Court Administration, and iCourt.

That page shows why the Clerk page needs both court-record context and non-court Recorder context, since several public-facing divisions sit under the same elected office.

Canyon County Clerk Duties

The Canyon County Clerk / Clerk of the District Court supports the local court system by receiving filings, maintaining case records, staffing courtrooms with in-court clerks, collecting fees, and routing records requests. Court Operations is the point of contact for civil, criminal, juvenile, traffic, probate, divorce, and docket-copy requests. Idaho's statewide iCourt portal supplies online case status, hearings, and payments, but the county clerk remains the local records custodian for copies from cases filed in Canyon County.

  • Maintain District Court and Magistrate Division case filings for Canyon County.
  • Support judges through in-court clerks and courtroom record processing.
  • Handle court records requests for documents, certified copies, and hearing audio.
  • Provide civil, criminal, juvenile, traffic, divorce, probate, and docket-copy contact paths.
  • Operate Clerk divisions outside court records, including Recorder, Passports, Auditor, Elections, and Indigent services.

Room 201 is the key location for court case filings and court-record copy requests, separate from the Clerk's administrative and Recorder counters.

Request Canyon County Certified Copies

Certified copies are used when a plain copy is not enough, such as a divorce decree, judgment, probate appointment order, satisfaction of judgment, or criminal disposition that must show official court certification. The Canyon County Court Records Request page tells requesters to provide case numbers, the parties listed on the case, specific document names and dates, and hearing dates for audio. It also directs users to the Idaho iCourt Portal to identify required case information before submitting a request.

  1. Search Idaho iCourt for the case number, parties, case type, and docket entry.
  2. Identify the exact document needed, such as a divorce decree, child support order, criminal judgment, civil judgment, or satisfaction of judgment.
  3. Use the Canyon County Court Records Request process and include document dates and party names.
  4. Mark that certification is needed, then pay the page-copy fee and certification fee that apply.
  5. For mailed documents, account for the envelope charge unless a self-addressed stamped envelope is provided.
  6. For restricted records under ICAR 32, provide photo ID or proof required by the clerk.

Canyon County Request Fields

The Court Records Request process is specific. A vague request can slow the response because the clerk must know which case and which document to copy. Audio requests need a hearing date, and the county states that audio recordings are not available before 2006. If the record is exempt from public disclosure under Idaho Court Administrative Rule 32, photo ID is required.

Those contacts help route requests that are not pure copy requests, including Court Assistance, Trial Court Administration, prosecutors, and public defender context.

Canyon County Clerk Fees

Canyon County publishes a detailed copy-fee table for court records. The fees below come from the Court Records Request material in the research file. Recorder payments use separate rules, including card acceptance and a card transaction fee, so Recorder costs should not be mixed with court-copy costs.

Canyon County Clerk Channels

The Clerk's court records channels include online case-status lookup, online payment, a county daily court schedule, in-person service, phone lines, email contacts, and a written court-records request path. The public records fallback is decentralized. Canyon County's public-records page states each elected official is the legal custodian of records of that office under Idaho Code 74-119, so a sheriff report, recorder instrument, and court case document may require different custodians.

  • Tyler Odyssey iCourt Portal for Smart Search, hearings, and payments.
  • Canyon County daily court schedule for local hearing information during its posted availability window.
  • Criminal contact: 208-454-7571 option 2, courtcriminal@canyon.idcourts.gov.
  • Civil contact: 208-454-7572 option 3, courtcivil@canyon.idcourts.gov.

That countywide custodian rule is important when a request involves both court records and non-court records, such as sheriff reports or recorded documents.

Recorder and Online Records

The Canyon County Recorder is under the elected Clerk, but recorded instruments are not the same as court case files. The Recorder page says recording documents must be original with original signatures or certified copies from courts, signatures must be notarized, page sizes are generally 8.5 by 11 or 8.5 by 14 except surveys and plats, handwriting must be legible, a 3-inch by 3-inch blank space is needed for the recording stamp, and the property must be in Canyon County.

Recorder payment methods include cash, check, money order, cashier's check, and credit or debit cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. Credit and debit payments have a 2.5% transaction fee with a $2 minimum. Checks are payable to Canyon County Recorder. The Recorder phone is 208-454-7555, and the office notes a conformed-copy fee change as of 03/16/2026 under Idaho Code 31-3205.

Use that Recorder portal for recorded instruments, not for District Court or Magistrate Division case files.

The Recorder page itself is also assigned by the manifest. The screenshot below is sourced from the Canyon County Recorder page.

Those Recorder details support the Clerk page because the elected Clerk manages both court operations and county recording functions through different service channels.
